What Verdica's 769 score means for AMERICAN NATIONAL INSURANCE CO
A Verdica composite score of 769 places American National Insurance Co in the "strong" band (740–799), indicating above-average operational and financial standing relative to peer insurance providers. This score reflects measured performance across three regulatory and consumer-facing dimensions: financial strength, complaint handling, and regulatory history.
For a business owner or consumer evaluating this provider, a score in this range suggests the company has demonstrated adequate reserves to pay claims, a complaint ratio within acceptable industry norms, and a clean-to-minor regulatory record in Texas. The "strong" designation means the provider is not in the top tier (800–850, "excellent"), but it has cleared the threshold where material risk or performance concerns would typically emerge. Readers should interpret this as a generally reliable option, though not necessarily the lowest-risk choice available—and comparative shopping or deeper due diligence on specific product lines and terms remains prudent.
How the sub-scores break down
Financial Strength: 675
A financial strength sub-score of 675 falls in the "acceptable" band (670–739). This dimension is derived from NAIC-reported solvency metrics, including capital reserves, leverage ratios, and loss reserve adequacy. A score at this level indicates the insurer maintains sufficient assets to meet its obligations to policyholders, but is not among the financially elite. In insurance, financial strength is a gate-level concern: inadequate reserves or deteriorating solvency can impair claims payment and regulatory standing. A 675 is not a red flag, but it does suggest the company warrants monitoring and is a reasonable candidate for verification of current financial disclosures before committing to large or long-term policies.
Complaints: 800
The complaints sub-score of 800 lands in the "excellent" band (800–850). This metric is based on NAIC complaint ratios, which normalize the volume and severity of consumer complaints against the size of the insurer's book of business. A score this high indicates that complaints per policy are low relative to industry peers, and any complaints filed have generally been resolved without requiring escalated regulatory intervention. This is a notable strength for American National Insurance Co and suggests responsive customer service infrastructure and policyholder satisfaction.
Regulatory Actions: 850
A perfect regulatory actions sub-score of 850 reflects a clean or near-clean record with the Texas Department of Insurance and other NAIC-tracked regulators. This dimension captures licensing status, disciplinary actions, fines, or enforcement orders. A score of 850 indicates no material violations, consent orders, or enforcement activity in the indexed dataset. This is the strongest possible signal on the compliance side.
What regulators in TX track for insurance providers
Texas insurance regulators and the NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) track several key metrics that feed into Verdica's scoring model:
NAIC Complaint Ratios measure customer complaints filed against an insurer, normalized by market share and policy count. Complaints include underwriting disputes, claim denials, billing errors, and service failures. Regulators flag providers with complaint ratios significantly above the median.
Financial Strength Ratings are derived from audited financial statements and solvency assessments. Regulators monitor capital adequacy, loss reserve sufficiency, and reinsurance arrangements to ensure an insurer can absorb adverse claims experience and remain solvent.
Regulatory Actions include license suspensions, fines, consent orders, and enforcement proceedings. These reflect violations of insurance law—e.g., unfair claims practices, marketing violations, or failure to maintain required reserves.
Scores improve when complaint ratios remain low, financial metrics are stable or improving, and regulatory history is absent of disciplinary action. Scores decline with upticks in complaints, financial stress indicators, or enforcement orders.
Bottom line
American National Insurance Co's 769 composite score reflects a provider with strong complaint and regulatory profiles, paired with acceptable financial reserves. For someone considering a policy, this suggests a reasonably stable and responsive carrier. Cross-check the provider's current financial statements and any product-specific reviews before binding coverage, especially for high-value or mission-critical policies.
